BERLIN, Md.- Authorities say a 73-year-old man is dead after the pickup truck he was driving collided with a tow truck in Berlin on Thursday morning.
Berlin police said it happened at around 7 a.m. on U.S. Route 113 (Worcester Highway) southbound at MD Route 818 (South Main Street).
Troopers said that when they arrived on the scene, the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, identified as Johnie Derrickson, 73, of Parsonsburg, Md., was found dead at the scene.
Police said the other vehicle involved in the crash, a 2017 Freightliner rollback tow truck, which was traveling south on U.S. Route 113, was driven by 58-year-old Robert Kressman, of New York.
Troopers said Kressman was not injured in the collision and refused medical treatment at the scene.
The cause of the collision is still being investigated by the Berlin Police Department, with the assistance of the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, and the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.
The highway was closed for approximately four-and-a-half hours following the crash.
